GENERAL HUNTING INFORMATION

HUNT ELEVATIONS

Our typical hunting elevation is between 3000 and 7000 feet so please be prepared. We suggest getting in shape prior to booking any hunt regardless of where and what you are hunting. Hunting is considered an Extreme Sport for good reason and can be very demanding on a physical level.

WFO’s hunting terrain can sometimes be pretty hard to get around during late fall and winter months with heavy snow, therefore we mostly use CanAm 1000 Quad ATV’s equipped with Snow Trax.

When the snow is too deep, snowmobiles work much better for the terrain we cover. For that, we run Artic Cat 800 Sleds with 156 Trax. For our Mountain Lion Hunts, we use a Bearcat Utility Vehicle for transporting our hounds.

 WHAT ARE PREFERENCE POINTS?

Preference Points are used on future hunts and improve your chances of drawing your desired tag. Offered by the Wyoming Game And Fish Department for your choice of species, these points are typically used for big game trophy hunts like elk, where a limited number of tags are available per year, based on state quota. Preference Points are available for $50 each.

5-6 preference points are required for 100% draw for rifle hunts in area 38 but tags can still be drawn in the random, due to the 20% allocated for random draws.
Archery hunters will need 7-9 preference points to hunt area 38. Only 10% of archery licenses go to the random.
For general draws with WFO, only 1 preference point is required for 100% draw.

Example: Elk Hunters usually purchase Preference points between July 1st and September 31st, to increase their odds of drawing an Elk Tag.

ATTENTION BOW HUNTERS

For the Bow Hunter/Archer in you, WFO’s Elk & Deer Archery Hunts run from September 1st through September 30th.

August 15th to August 30th is open to Archery Antelope only but also runs from September 1st through September 24th.

Wyoming Archery Licenses are $30. All of WFO’s Archery Hunts are offered one of several ways:

  • Elevated Gorilla Tree Stand (Bear)
  • In-Ground Blinds by Premium 360° (Antelope)
  • Spot and Stalk Techniques (Mule Deer)
  • Calling and Foot Travel (Elk)

We are here to help every step of the way and look forward to guiding you on your next Hunting Adventure.

HUNTING FEES

WOUNDED ANIMAL FEES

Additional fees will be charged to any hunter for any of the big game animals which are wounded but not killed during the hunt.

Wounded animal fee is half the price of the hunt to continue hunting. A wounded animal is considered an animal that has been injured and will be unable to survive if not recovered.

Please note* flesh wounds do not constitute a wounded animal fee. Your hunting guide will determine if a wounded animal fee is necessary or not.

DISCOUNTS

Ask about WFO’s Group Hunting Discounts available to parties of 4 or more and youth hunters under the age of 18 years of age.

  • Cash
  • Visa and MasterCard

NON-HUNTING COMPANIONS

Non-Hunting Companion Fees are rated based on the number of days in your hunting package.

(At WFO’s Discretion, Non-Hunting Companions may be required to stay at area hotel/motel, depending on room availability at the lodge)

For example: If Husband and Wife are coming but Wife is a Non-Hunting Companion, she may not be able to stay at the lodge depending on the number of current hunters we have. We understand this is not ideal however due to the number of hunters we get each year, space is limited.

Please call ahead and speak to a member of our team if it’s your plan to have a Non-Hunting Companion accompany you on your hunt as Restrictions and Limitations May Apply. We will however arrange transportation to and from the Lodge, in the event we are unable to provide an adequate number of rooms.

WHAT DOES IT COST TO GET STARTED?

35% Deposit plus any Applicable License Fees (which are not included in the cost of the hunt) are due at time of booking. For complete costs, please call and speak to Kris Powers at 307-751-2297.

All Deposits are non-refundable once License/Tag has been issued however some Deposits can be held over till the following year. Contact Us for Details.
